Our Story

Able Steel Fabricators, Inc. has been family owned and operated since its inception. Charles “Chuck” Clark, Jr. and Charles “Jim” Clark Sr. started Able Welding in 1975 incorporating as Able Steel Fabricators in 1981. Since 1975, the business philosophy of Able Steel Fabricators, Inc. has been we are “Able to do your job”.Like many from the ground up businesses, Able Steel’s initial projects were smaller in size. Small commercial buildings, grain storage facilities and mini-storage warehouses were the types of projects that Able Steel fabricated and erected during the seventies. In the early eighties Chuck and Jim acquired Able Steel’s current ten acre facility in Mesa AZ.

Over the years the projects have continued to grow in size, number, and complexity, driven by Chuck Clark’s vision to be “the best damn steel construction company in the southwest.”Today, Able Steel Fabricators, Inc. is one of the leading structural and miscellaneous steel subcontractors in the Southwest.

Able Steel was started in October 1975 in a 10,000-square-foot facility as Able Welding and Fabricating.
1981
In 1981, the company moved into the original 22,000-square-foot shop at the current site and incorporated as Able Steel Fabricators, Inc.

First Beamline.

First CNC programable beamline.
1997
Became AISC Certified and have Maintained to present.
1998
Added the West Building expansion 20,000 sq ft

First CNC plasma/Oxy Fuel Burn Table

Modernized Production Control and Estimating Software including BIM Capability

Installation of a  new 3 spindle CNC Drill Line

Installed a new Plasma Beam Processor

Installed a new automatic 4 wheel shot blaster

Eliminated use of paper on shop floor to utilize iPad

Replaced Burn Table with new Plasma/Oxy/Drill Burn Table

Able Steel becomes LADBS certified for the City of Los Angeles

Replaced CA Plasma Beam Processor with new Lincoln Python-6 axis Beam Processor

Upgraded to a new 8”x 8” CNC Angle Line
2021/2022
Installed (4) New CNC Robotic Welders
2023
Installed an Additional CNC Plasma Beam Processor

Became Complex Coating Endorsed through AISC

Replacing the Drill Line with a new CNC (3) Spindle Drill Line and Cut off Saw
